I changed how I handle my dotfiles

By Ariel Costas - September 29, 2021

My dotfiles repo has been fully upgraded, and now uses GNU Stow as part of its workflow. Instead of having a bare repo somewhere and running git with the working dir set to /home/user I now have a normal git repository on ~/dotfiles and let GNU Stow install those dotfiles for me in my home directory.

This saves me a lot of problems having to make sure I don’t mistakenly commit my whole home directory, or having files like a README on my home directory just for that repo.
