Samsung brags about the backdoor on their 'smart' TVs

By Ariel Costas - August 26, 2021

I’ve talked about the smart things in the past, but this is another demonstration of who really has the control on ‘your’ devices when running proprietary programs.

On August 6th, 2021, Samsung’s South Africa Newsroom published an article claiming they support retailers with ‘innovative’ television block function. Let me fix that title: “Samsung adds a backdoor to their televisions that permit remote obsolescence, and tries to promote it as support for retailers, although backdoors are unjust”.

They claim the will only use it to disable stolen televisions, but can we really trust them? They could potentially use it for anything else: remotely installing software, spying on their users (converting them in ‘used’ by the company), programmed obsolescence.

Please think twice before buying a “smart” device.
